How Did We Get Here?
Summer 2022: The summer that changed my life. I was in a chatroom with friends, and we had some of the cores from Portal 2 as chatbots. I was in charge of the fact core, and my buddy Alex[2] was in charge of the space core. I had bundles of fun pretending to be the fact core, and one night over dinner, I heard my brother (BEFORE she became my sister) talk about Portal with my parents, quoting various funnies from the game and talking about how awesome the game was. And then, it hit me right there: I gotta get in on this portal stuff, for real this time. Me and my sister are part of the same Steam family together, which lets you play games for free as long as another family member owns them so I was psyched to play it for the first time, and I fell in love nigh-instantly even if the game frustrated tween me to no end.That year, for christmas, I dove into Portal 2 when I got my ps3. Me and my sister spent nights conversing about what life would be like if we owned a real companion cube, and we shared funny little jokes with each other all the time. Even my DAD got in on it! There's nothing like sitting in your bedroom at 2AM in the morning jumping through portals and sliding on repulsion gel without a care in the world. Even if my interest in Portal receded for a time, now its back and better than ever!
